Understanding perfume oil
Dupe perfume oil: what it is and what to check
A dupe is a fragrance that takes up the character of a well-known perfume without using the name, brand or bottle of the original. For perfume oil that means a concentrate with a similar scent character, but its own formulation and its own name. Here you read how to check quality and what we offer.
- 205perfume oils in the range, each with its own name
- 5 gsample of every oil, to test before you order more
- 3documents for every oil: safety data sheet, IFRA statement, allergen list

The term
What a dupe is, and what it is not.
The word dupe comes from the English duplicate. It means a fragrance that picks up the character of a well-known perfume: similar notes, but its own formulation, its own name and its own look.
A dupe is not a counterfeit. A counterfeit carries the name, logo or bottle of the original and deceives about its origin. We do neither, and we advise nobody to.
Perfume oil is the undiluted concentrate. You dilute it with ethanol yourself, fill it into your own bottles or have it filled. Ready-mixed perfume is called bulk perfume with us.

What you get from us.
Many of our perfume oils are re-creations of popular fragrance directions. Which direction an oil takes up, we describe through notes and fragrance family, never through brands or originals.
- Its own name for every oil, no brand names
- Fragrance pyramid and fragrance family for every oil
- Samples of 5 g before you order larger sizes
- Safety data sheet, IFRA statement and allergen list for every oil
- Sizes from 100 g to 1 kg
- Perfume oil or ready-mixed bulk perfume, as you prefer
Perfume oil or bulk perfume?
Both come in the same fragrances. The difference is how much work you do yourself.

Check quality: five questions for every supplier.
- DocumentsAre there a safety data sheet, an IFRA statement and an allergen list, with a date?
- SampleCan you test the scent on skin and in your own product before you order?
- Staying powerHow long a scent lasts depends on formulation and concentration. Only a sample shows it, not the label.
- CompositionAre allergens declared, so that you can prepare labelling and safety assessment?
- ResponsibilityWho is the responsible person when you sell under your brand? That is you, with safety assessment and notification.
Law, in short
Where it gets risky.
According to Stiftung Warentest (27 June 2025) and specialist law firms, selling a similar scent is not forbidden in itself. Advertising is what is risky. Names or pictures of originals, wording like 'smells like', comparison lists and customer reviews that name originals are the typical triggers for warning letters.
That is why we name no brands and no originals, not in product texts, not in documents and not on request. We use the general word dupe only on explainer pages like this one.

Questions
Five questions about dupe perfume oil.
More answers on documents and approval are in the help centre.
What is a dupe perfume oil?
A perfume oil that takes up the character of a well-known fragrance direction, with its own formulation and its own name, and without using the name or look of the original.
Are dupes legal?
Selling a similar scent is not forbidden in itself, according to Stiftung Warentest (27 June 2025). Advertising is what gets risky: naming originals, 'smells like' and comparison lists are what courts have repeatedly objected to. This is general information, not legal advice.
How good is the quality?
That cannot be said across the board. Check the documents, order a 5 g sample and test how long the scent lasts on your skin and in your product.
Which oil matches which perfume?
We do not say. We name no brands and no originals, not even on request. Search by notes and fragrance family instead, or describe the scent you want to the fragrance finder.
Can I sell it under my own brand?
Yes. Depending on quantity there are routes from white-label oils to contract filling. You then take over the duties of the responsible person. The routes at a glance.
Next step.
Test first, then order. With a sample you find out at little risk whether a fragrance fits your product.
